Jay of the North: The Story of My Morning.

Did anyone else feel like this today? I woke up around seven this morning, saw giant snowflakes and eagerly checked my e-mail hoping that school was cancelled. No luck. How about that infamous red bar that indicates campus is closed? Nope. So I got ready for class, checked my e-mail and the home page one last time and was on my way to campus. I trekked through slush and fresh powder and couldn't help but be happy that my best friend doesn't attend SPC anymore. I always worried about how she would get around campus when it snowed and rained, especially around the uneven, sloped and unshoveled areas of the quad [which, let's be honest, is basically everywhere at 9 a.m!]. So, I was a few minutes late for my 9 a.m but I was still determined to show up. Of course I was worried about not having a seat [since the chair monster has been eating one every week since the class first started] but when I was directly by the door I saw three open seats. SCORE! A second later I realized that I could have my pick of any seat in the class. Hell, I could have taught the class if I wanted. You know, because I was the only person there. I guess I should have assumed class was cancelled when I saw Jan on the walk to Pope and she told me "Word is classes from 10-on are cancelled.. look out for the text," but sometimes I need a giant snowflake to slide down the back of my shirt to get the hint.

I won't lie, upon noticing classes were cancelled I went to the Hudson Room to get some breakfast. I mean, I was already on campus.. I might as well, right? I was one of the lucky people to get more than just eggs. So, had there been class this morning, I would have been one of the sad looking people sitting at a table with dry toast and eggs. I guess this was the up-side to being on campus today.. because I know I wouldn't be making myself blueberry pancakes or scrambled eggs at home!

WWE NXT: spoiler alert

You may or may not have tuned in for the premier of NXT tonight. If you did, you witnessed the 'future' [which is actually the present if you think of it logically] of the WWE. If you didn't, you missed some damn good talent.

Pictured above are the 8 rookies of NXT. In order (left to right) they are:
Daniel Bryan, Darren Young, David Otunga, Heath Slater
Justin Gabriel, Michael Tarver, Skip Sheffield, Wade Barrett

So what exactly is NXT? Basically, it's part "reality" and mostly scripted [and 100% competition]. The 'Rookies' are mentored by their 'Pros' and at the end, one of the 'Rookies' will be rewarded with a contract to wrestle on RAW. So.. technically, it's kind of like Tough Enough.. only it isn't at all. Get it?

As of tonight only five wrestlers (Bryan, Young, Otunga, Tarver and Slater) have had the chance to fight. Considering this was only a one hour show, there was some people who really got my attention and some people who didn't even give me two minutes worth of entertainment.

The Matches:
* Christian & Heath Slater vs Carlito & Michael Tarver
Winner: Christian & Heath Slater

* Darren Young vs David Otunga
Winner: David Otunga

* Chris Jericho vs Daniel Bryan
Winner: Chris Jericho

Now, here's how I feel about them..

Darren Young: Obviously, I had no choice but to give Darren Young the number four spot. I honestly don't care how many people say that he looks like a colored John Cena, because looks aren't getting him anywhere. In all honesty, if you can't last more than two minutes in a match, you might as well be Santino. I have high hopes for Young (as in, I hope they give him a better storyline, better matches, and let him win) and feel a little sorry for him because his 'Pro' is none other than the straight-edge jerk, CM Punk. Young looks eager and excited to finally be a part of the WWE but will CM Punk push him too far? Dun dun dunnnn..

David Otunga: No, you eyes are not playing tricks on you.. that is former "I Love New York" contestant 'Punk.' He is also one of eight rookies on NXT and number three on my list this week. While the audience was not able to see more than him slam Darren Young into the mat and win the match instantly, he wasn't the one who lost the match. This man clearly has strength on his side but his cocky attitude puts him on my 'cheer against' list. In all honesty, if his match lasted longer, there's a good possibility that he could have reached number two this week. Otunga will grow to be one of those superstars that you either love or hate.. and while I'm against saying that I hate people, I can't see myself loving him either.

Heath Slater: Heath Slater comes in at number two because he has an amazing sense of team work and worked amazingly with his Pro, Christian. Christian, also known as Captain Charisma, has the most eager and hopeful rookie of the bunch. Slater truly seems as though he has the drive and motivation to win the competition based on his pure love for the sport. Slater is definately one of those wrestlers that you have to sympathize with (he's like the puppy in the pet store that you want to buy even though you know you can't afford it) and when he wins you can't help but be happy for him. I would like to see where Slater's career takes him and I hope that the fame he gets strictly from being Christians rookie doesn't get to his head.

Daniel Bryan: I'm going to be completely honest when I say that the love that my best friend has for Daniel Bryan [or Bryan Danielson as he protests his name should be] made me completely biased against Bryan. Leading up to his big match, I laughed as Miz [or as I like to call Mike.. because honestly, that's what I grew up calling him] trash talked and put Bryan down. Who is this punk who just happens to be an internet sensation known by so many people? He happens to be number one on my list and my favorite NXT rookie thus far. It takes a lot to be paired up with the Miz, trash talked and abused on your first night on the job.. so add the fact that his first match in the WWE was against Chris Jericho and give this man a cookie. Bryan has true skill and as I watched him, I couldn't help the feeling of not wanting to blink--not wanting to miss a second of his match. In the end, Bryan lost his match but honestly, I feel like he could win the entire competition. From a complete skeptic of this wrestler, to someone who could be a real fan of him, he has what it takes to make a believer out of you. So please Michael Cole, give the man a break.

I'm not sure what the other three rookies have in store for us, but I am eager to see if they have what it takes to top Bryan in my book.

KTHKSHI: What you asked for.

I think my friend said it best by saying that today was the 'technical difficulty show.' I like to think of today as a learning experience and hope to get a laugh out of it.. eventually. There's really no point in dwelling on things that were out of my control, so all I can do is make sure that the show on Friday is better. [And if you didn't listen, please ignore this whole paragraph! :)]

Anyway, on to the details from today's show!

[Under-taker] Millions of people watched RAW anticipating Shawn Michael's explanation as to why he basically screwed over Taker at Elimination Chamber. People saw the promise of a match at Wrestlemania against the two, tension, and.. well.. yellow.. stuff.. on Takers face. What was this yellow stuff? Immediately after seeing it, I jumped on GOOGLE to see if my HDTV was working miracles and seeing things no one else could, or if other people were wondering the same thing I was. Tons of jokes about him getting
hungry before his appearance and chowing down
on a hotdog with mustard were found, but more rational, serious answers were found..

For those of you know didn't see Elimination Chamber, you probably didn't know that Undertaker got set on fire with his own pyro-show during his entrance. A video showing the incident can be found here.

So what was that yellow stuff on his face? The most obvious and correct answer would be some kind of ointment or cream to cover his burns from Elimination Chamber. You may laugh at how silly it looked, but you can't deny that this man has heart to even show up and use his fire entrance so soon after a terrible accident.

One Year Later, One Year Older..

I honestly can't believe that it's been over a year since I blogged for KTHKSHI! I originally created this page because I wanted to share things that raised my eyebrow and I ended up "epically failing" as those 'hipsters' (ROZ, ya darn hipster!) like to say. Alas, I am back and hopefully it'll be a good time.

So.. in a year some important things have happened. You know, the stream stopped working, started working, stopped working, started working again.. ect. And.. I am now a "single-parent" as far as KTHKSHI is concerned. The decision wasn't the easiest to make, but for the sake of the show continuing, it had to be done. I won't be changing much about the show, so listeners shouldn't be too concerned.

Also, tomorrow is KTHKSHI's big celebration episode. Yep, we turned the big oh-two on February 8, 2010 and you're invited to celebrate! I am aware that tomorrow is February 19, making this show a whopping 11 days late, but do you really care about that? I think not.

I'm not going to give too much away as far as the show or the playlist is concerned, but I will be back to blog after tomorrow's show. I'm trying this thing where I actually write everyday so the next time I have a 8-day-break from school, my brain doesn't melt.

Be sure to listen tomorrow! Ta-ta for now!
